Webring Update!

Hooray! The Unschooling Blogs Webring will continue!

A very special Thank You to all of you who volunteered to take over the management of the Unschooling Blogs Webring -I'm so grateful! And thank you to those of you who sent kind words along - they were much appreciated.

I'm excited to tell you that the ring will continue without interruption or changes needing to be made on your blogs.

The new home page for the ring is:
http://unschoolingblogs.blogspot.com/

(I'll delete this page in the near future.)

You'll find contact information there for the new owner, Katie, as well.

Thank you, Katie!

best,
Amanda

Unschooling Webring Change

To all Unschooling Blogs Webring Members:

Hello fellow unschoolers. I'm writing to let you know that I am no longer able to maintain the Unschooling Blogs Webring. I've thoroughly enjoyed getting a peek at your days, thoughts on unschooling, and families through the webring and discovering your blogs. However, the time that it takes to maintain and update the webring is no longer something I have the time or passion for. That, in addition to criticism I've received about the webring's management have led me to the decision that it isn't something I have room for anymore.

If anyone is interested in taking over the webring, please email me at soulemama@gmail.com so we can talk about how to make the transition. There are  currently 110 active members, with about 20 waiting in the queue to join. The process is set up through Ring Surf and is fairly straightforward, but it does take a bit of time to review each new blog that applies, and to check the members for updates from time to time. And often there are technical questions that people have about getting the code to work on their site, etc (so some knowledge in this area would be necessary). In addition to that maintenance, a seperate webpage (this could be a blog, or a page on your own blog) would need to be established to be the 'home' of the webring (currently, that is housed on my own blog, at this page: http://soulemama.typepad.com/unschooling_blogs/).

If someone does take over the webring, I will send out another email letting you know the web address for more information - it's possible that this would mean no change to your current code. Otherwise, on February 28th, I'll be taking down the Unschooling Blogs webpage, and your links will no longer be active.

My apologies to you, and my thanks for your understanding.

Best,
Amanda Soule

update - Jan. 07

Hello, All! I just wanted to let you know that all is still good with the Unschooling Blogs webring, it's just taking me a bit longer than it used to to update the list (which makes the ring code active on your site). Part of the reason is that there are SO MANY people finding their way here and wanting to join. A wonderful 'problem' indeed. It also takes me quite a bit of time to go through and weed out blogs that are no longer valid.

Right now, the list is getting updated about every two to three weeks. Thanks for your patience!

a bit behind

Just wanted to give a heads up that I'm a bit behind on maintenance to the Blog Ring right now. If you are currently waiting to be approved, or need my assistance in any other way, it might be another week or two before I can do that. If you need assistance with the ring code, or any other questions, I encourage you to check out the Ring Surf help forums.

Thanks for your patience, and interest in the Unschooling Blogs web ring!

Best,
Amanda

Welcome!

Welcome to the Unschooling Blogs Web Ring! We've just begun this web ring in March of 2005. We hope that as it grows, it can serve as a tool to connect families who have chosen to unschool, or want to learn about unschooling--so that we may support and inspire each other through sharing on our web logs. Please look around this page for answers to your questions about joining, and feel free to email with any questions or suggestions.

Thanks, and Welcome!

FAQs

How do I join the Unschooling Blogs Web Ring?

Simply, click on "Join Unschooling Blogs Web Ring" here or in the sidebar on the left. You will be taken to Ringsurf.com, where you'll be asked for basic information about your website. At that point, you will be given the "ring code", which consists of HTML that you need to put on your homepage (this is what makes the "button" appear). The easiest way is to copy and paste. Once the ring code is up and running on your page, your site will be checked (every few days or so), and added to the list.

How do I add the ring code to my template in Typepad?

Once you have your ring code html, copy that into the "Notes" section of a Link Typelist. And then set the configuration for the Typelist to "display notes as text"."

How do I leave the Unschooling Blogs Web Ring?

What? You want to leave? ;) That's easy, just erase the html code from your homepage, and you will be removed from the list. You're welcome to rejoin at any time you'd like.

Where can I get more technical help for joining the Unschooling Blogs Web Ring?

If you're having trouble setting up your ring code, there is help found on the RingSurf forums, found here .  If that doesn't help, you can also email Amanda with any questions. I'll do my best to answer them, though my knowledge is quite limited, I'm afraid.
