Sun Days
(top photo by Steve).
You'll have to forgive me for having nothing to share today besides the joy of the sun. But you see, I'm a little distracted by this sunshine. I love the time change in the spring, and the longer days it gives us. It comes at just the right time - just when I start to feel a little too Winter cave-like - now the days become longer, the sun shines brighter, and the temperatures are just a little bit warmer. I want to curl up like the cat chasing the sunbeams through the house; I want to jump off a snowbank and sit in the brightness of the sun reflected off the snow. I love this assuredeness that March brings. Spring will come. The sun says so.
And just to be sure? I'm painting it on, too.

thank goodness for warmer days! our last little blizzard came this weekend; now it's time for spring cleaning & letting all the sun shine in.

I love yellow paint too! Yes, wasn't it so nice last night at 6:30pm the waning sunlight was "still" coming in the dining room while eating dinner...lovely.

funny, when i opened this and saw the first pic i thought "that looks like a steve photo" and scrolled down to see that yes indeed, it is. ;)
lovely paint color as well... looks like one i've been trying to find for a spring painting project over here. do you happen to recall the name? happy sunny monday!

I love that shade of yellow you're painting with, it's beautiful.

Is this the special milk paint for walls? Did you have to any special prep over top of the old paint?
I'm loving the yellow. Spring? What's that? It feels like we ushered in summer a couple of weeks ago here in Florida. WE are experiencing a bit of "cold snap" now, but air temps in the 60's aren't enough to keep my son and his cousins out of the ocean!
Have a good one!

heather -
funny, yes! It is a "steve' photo, indeed. Not one I would think to take, and of course, I love it so much.
The color. It's Straw Hat by Behr. I'm not so sure about it yet. It looks beautiful in the daylight, but at night under the bathroom lighting, it's a little harsh. I'm working on softening it up with some lighter curtains, etc. I'll report back! Yellow is tricky!

No, it's not the milk paint. It's regular Behr acrylic paint. I haven't used the milk paint for walls yet - just furniture and art projects. But I'm going to give it a go one of these days....

Ha! I started painting yellow in our house a couple weeks back. Great minds think alike, eh? ;-) Although I opted for butter melt colour and painted furniture instead of walls. Because I rent and who wants to paint someone elses stuff? Is that your bedroom?
Posted by: QALBALLAH | March 10, 2008 at 10:09 AM
Ah yes, the time change. Almost as good as the longer evenings is the extra quiet hour in the morning before the kids get up. For a week or two, anyway.

I'm also worshiping the little bit of extra sunshine we are getting, I'm just drinking it in whenever I get the chance. The winter is long up here in the Highlands of Scotland and we are all REALLY ready for a bit more sun!!

Funny, just yesterday I said, "we need to paint the bedroom yellow." I think yellow is VERY important at this time of year, especially here in Maine!

we got buried with the biggest (and hopefully) the last snowstorm of the season this weekend. we can't find our backyard or see our neighbours for the snowbanks. but today the sun is shining and as the sunlight streams through the window there is warmth and promise, so long as we don't step outside ;-)
happy monday to you and yours.

I was just thinking 'thats the same colour as our lounge' ......and then you mentioned the name...the one I used is called 'straw boater'...so it probably IS pretty much the same. I love it and everyone says it looks nice. Great with natural light on it I agree, can be a bit 'gaslighty' under artificial, but the sunniness it lends even on grim days means I can forgive it that !

I don't think one should apologize for sharing the joy of the sun!

oooh i need to do this. to my kitchen. now.

Loving the sun here, too.
That top photo is spectacular! The angle, the light, the movement---I love it!
And then the photo with the kitty curled up next to a log cabin quilt... Ah. So heartwarming.

I have yellow walls, tablecloth and daffodils surrounding me right now. Yellow is tricky. I got softer lighting in this room and it solved it for me.

We are loving the warm sun here too, being outside all day, maybe even a beach trip soon.

Yellow is my all-time favorite color. I have my family room painted in "uplifting" by Glidden. It looks good in any kind of light...Actually for me, any yellow hue look good in any kind of light :)

I've been itching to make something golden-y for our living room. I've only recently come to appreciate the color yellow, but that extra bit of brightness seems to make all the difference on a drab day. (Especially since all our walls are somewhere in the blue family!)

I used to have a yellow bathroom in my old house. This one has a bathroom with yellow ceramic tile... wouldn't have been my first choice! I hope you find a color you like for sure!

I Love yellow paint! My living room is yellow.
These longer spring days are the best.

Hi there. I'm a Canadian mom (from BC) who's newly hooked on your blog. I discovered you through Flickr, where I found your studio pics while searching for inspiration for my own creative space :-)
(My Flickr ID is 'Christaface' if you want to see my little 8x8 sewing room- quite a work in progress as of yet)
I'm sooo excited for the sunny days too. The stretch of miserable weather between Christmas and Easter is almost over. I think we're all a little solar powered. Everyone's perking up a bit. I'm getting really excited for flip flops and farmer's markets soon!

I love yellow - had a small gally kitchen in my first condo - little space - no sun so I painted it bright yellow - sunshine all day everyday. You have inspired me to paint yellow, again (not bright this time - lots sof windows, here). It is so wonderful to see the sun here in the Midwest, I find myself wanting to follow it around, too. Your photos are amazing!

Love the yellow paint! What shade is that? Looking to add a little sun to our family room as well!
Happy days!

Yes, yellow is tricky! We have, oh, about 15 tiny cans of yellow paint from when we decided to paint our house yellow. Enjoy the sunshine! I'm accepting our sunshine with trepidation, our summers are so long and hot here. I don't know if I'm ready for them yet!

enjoy that sun!

Still recovering from a period of depression I find the early spring sunshine uplifting and rejuvinating. It truly makes you feel as if the world is waking up again ready for the fun of warm summer days. When I see the sun shining through the window I feel like it's going to be a good day. The expression 'God's in his heaven and all is right with the world' always springs to mind even if it's just for a moment of escaping the world and it's worries. Not that you always get lots of sunshine in Belfast. Thanks for your blog. I find it comforting and inspiring. Can't wait to get your book which I have on preorder from Amazon.

Love the jump! Sunny here too today -- and our bulbs are starting to bloom. Buds on the hydrangeas... Enjoying both it and your pics.

Here in Ohio we are enjoying twenty inches of snow and fifty degree weather. Could it be the perfect ending to a very long winter? I hope so. I know there were some tiny spring flowers up before the snow blanketed them. We spent the morning in a snowball fort soon to be chronicled on my blog.

I am completely enjoying the sun! I love the warmth on my skin. It makes me feel healthier.

lovely lovely color!!
so glad that sunshine has made a comeback in your part of the world!

I too am enjoying the sun! It is beautiful in Denver today... We are getting ready to have a picnic to celebrate.
I love a soft yellow. In my kitchen is Benjamin Moore- Concord Ivory. I read about it being used in Domino Mag when I was searching for just the right soft yellow and (in my ever so humble opinion) it is perfect!!

Beautiful soft yellow. Spring is almost here. Pretty soon the grass will be green and the flowers will be blooming.

I am a yellow fanatic and always paint my living room walls yellow...and have always found it hard to find the "perfect" shade. We love "Beeswax" by Sherwin Williams...a soft gold.
Posted by: Aimee | March 10, 2008 at 03:53 PM
I love that yellow. I can never find a "just right" shade of it. I painted the inside of my closet with yellow. So it's the first burst of color in my day. :)

Ah yes the sun... it makes me breath just a bit easier. I've often wanted to paint my kitchen a sunny yellow (its a south facing room)... maybe I'll just have to get brave and get it done!
Lovely as usual!

I love the yellow! I was wanting to do the same to our living room, hoping it might bring the sunshine in a bit more. Thanks for the inspiration!

We used Benjamin Moore Provence Creme-it's actually a soft yellow. Yellow is so happy...

I can feel the warmth coming through here. Beautiful shots and bits of yellow.
E's been both singing himself and asking me to sing "Good day,sunshine..." over and over again the past few days.

I was hoping that you could help me with finding the courage to choose homeschooling. I don't think you have spoken a lot about it here on your blog? My daughter is "meant" to start school next year. How did you decide that your kids wouldn't go to school? They seem to be doing so well at home! Any advice would be appreciated! ~ Amanda

Feeling the warmth from your photos from miles away. I LOVE the color on your wall. Yay for Spring! :)

I too am so pleased with the warmer days I love spring time.
Posted by: lynne | March 11, 2008 at 06:14 AM
I am loving the sun too. Here in Vancouver it's already spring, with hints of flowers and open coats and so on, but a little more sun everyday is the most important part of it all.
I have a question--I really want to start sewing, but I haven't been able to find an reasonably easy, mess-up-able, yet exciting project. If I was expecting a little one I'd make baby wipes, that would fit the bill, but I'm not ;) Do you have any thoughts? (Or any other sewers who might read this comment!) Maybe a small quilt? If so any fabric sources to recommend?
By the way I don't often comment but I adore this blog. It inspires me so much on so many levels!

I love yellow! Our bedroom is a small room under the eaves with only two small windows. We painted it Concord Ivory by Ben Moore, and LOVE it! I also love yellow kitchens!
