little joys in the snow

Snow

It's snowing outside right now. We should be getting about 6 inches by nightfall. But we're not going to talk about that. Nope. Instead, shall we flip the coin to celebrating some small joys of the week? Yes, let's do that.

:::: Putting the finishing touches this week on the small quilt collection - a project that I've had such a wonderful time working on for nearly a year now. They're now in the hands of my trusty local frame shop getting dressed up for their show next week.

Joys1

:::: (We're raising Nikon babies.) Watching two photographers' kids play together with their Mama's cameras, taking pictures, mostly, of each others feet. Sounds about right.

:::: Calvin's new-found skill of using an index. And just like that, a whole world of information just opened up to him. Beautiful.

Joys5

:::: Open windows. Growing plants. Melting Snow. Spring. (I said we weren't talking about today.)

:::: This video. We're huge fans of The Be Good Tanyas here, but I had somehow managed to miss this video. Not anymore, thanks to several of you who kindly recently sent me the link (thank you!). It's beautiful, and makes me feel full of spring and hope.

Joys4

:::: Adelaide's new love of reading Tom Kitten to Banjo. And his willingness to listen. That girl and her cat...

Joys3

:::: Just a little bit more yellow in the house in the form of newly painted kitchen stools. (I swear, that's the last thing I paint/sew yellow for a bit. I promise.)

:::: A weekend ahead full of good things : skiing (see - joy in the snow), friends, and dress shopping at Anthropologie.

Ah, that's better. Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

Sometimes it's nice to enjoy the beginnings of Australian winters. Thick socks are a nice touch, but not required. Gives me leave to be romantic about snow. Your photos do it for me. I can wish. Without having to face any reality. Oh yeah.

yeah! The creative family has shipped, congratulations! I am looking forward to reading it and already plan on gifting several copies.

My grandma made me a quilt when I was little out of bits of clothing and scraps. I only recently learned some of those scraps were discarded dresses from a cousin's school dance, an aunt who ended up in a mental hospital from random shopping frenzies and trips to Puerto Rico, and some other scraps. My grandmother would take a page of newspaper and split into fours. She would then sew the tiniest pieces of fabric to the paper and then pull the paper off and sew together. I love thinking about where those little pieces of fabric came from.

We too keep fight the snow but are dreaming of the warm days of spring. Love the vintage quilts...they are so homey. Dianntha

I found your blog by way of my blogging hero, Rhonda Jean, from Down--to--Earth. She reads your blog every day and so I thought I'd check it out.

All I can say is WOW. I love everything about this blog! Your photographs are stunning -- the closeness of your family pouring through, your home is decorated so beautifully -- inviting, comfortable, and warm, and your writing is free-flowing and delightful.

No wonder Rhonda visits each day. No wonder. :)

Blessings to you! I wish you continued success and happiness!

Excuse me for the bad english...I'm a french artist, enjoying doing things with my childs, too ! I discover your blog with hapiness. Your home, your kids and all the things you do are very nice ! I will try to buy your book, if i find it in France ! I invite you to visit my blog, i do papercuts and other things...Friendly,

I have a 18 months old boy and he is enjoying now a few books about trucks and animals, and he is always wanting me to draw ducks for him. But he is very much into Pocoyo, too. It is a Spanish cartoon (3D in fact) that has won many prizes in different festivals. I think you can get it now on the TV in the USA, and Adelaide will love it. But we watch it every now and then in youtube so we can control his time watching TV.

Love reading your blog, it always cheers me up if I am a little bit down. Thanks.

What kind of Nikon camera do you use? You take lovely pictures.

Nevermind. I just found it!

Hi Amanda!

How was the skiing? It´s not that I´m a 100% looking forward to winter - which I´m not, I´d say I´m about 50%. The thing is, we don´t get to see snow here, so skiing has to be arranged and involves a plane trip at least. :(

I´m new to skiing but totally in love with it. And to that, yes, I´m looking forward!

Happy week!

I just checked my mail and what did I find? Your lovely, lovely book. Is it ok that I busied the kiddos with an art project so I could read through it? It is a beautiful book and I am SO excited to finally have it in my hands!
