Winter Drops

{Top and bottom photos by Steve}
This quilt has been such a fun sewing project for me the past few weeks.
I fell in love with that one amazing little doily in the center while out antiquing recently, and the rest of the quilt grew from there. The quilt is grey
linen on one side, and white swiss dots on the other. The circles of fabric - some new, and some feedsack - are all hand or machine appliqued, with some embroidery in there as well. And with a layer of
cotton batting on the inside, it's very cozy. I could get attached to this one...
The beach was the only place I could imagine photographing this one, so that's where we headed this weekend. The beach was empty, and it was cold, cold, cold. But despite the cold (I knew it was time to stop photographing when I couldn't feel my fingers anymore!) and the early setting sun (really? 4:00?), it was beautiful there and I do believe the quilt got a little Maine beach blessing in the breeze before it will head out into the world somewhere else.
I'm very excited to share with you the rest of what I've made for The Shop - I've had a lot of fun putting this collection together. And no worries - there will be much more than quilts - with prices starting at $18 on up. So, yes...11 am EST tomorrow - (Tuesday) in this location. I'll post here when it's all up and live!

OOh, I can't wait! Incredible quilt and photos!

Styling / photoshoot is beautiful. Quilt is so divine and simple and sublime. Love it! Such inspiration for my own Christmas crafting. Thank you once again. I'm sure my time zone means I'll miss out on any purchases in your shop (I live in Australia).

Such an amazing sunset. You look so relaxed there with your quilt, thermos, and that amazing view. You are so lucky to have the mighty ocean right at your doorstep!

I saw your photo of Portland Head yesterday and it made me sigh. I love that park. I have some wonderful memories of my children swinging on the swings and playing in the forts. I am the only one who is too chicken to go into that tunnel in the bunker ;o)

I can certainly see how a person might fall in love with that doily. It gives me a big smile.

I have been seeing glimpses of it and wondering about what you were doing to that doily these last couple of days, and finally it was revealed. What a great idea! Your quilt is stylish, elegant and just plain lovely!

I've been wanting to do this for a while now, but wasn't quite sure what the best way to attach them, but I think I'll just go for it now! Thanks for the lovely inspiration. What do you think of pretty little doilies sewn on a onsie or a pillow? I think I'll do that.
The blanket is wonderful!

Fantastic quilt! I love seeing the scene you have it set in. It makes me homesick as I am far away from my childhood home in Maine. I now live in Norway.

I love that quilt! I unfortunately will be working during the time your shop opens so I will probably miss alot of great stuff! I also noticed you switched from ETSY to Big Cartel. Does this mean no more ETSY? The only reason I am asking is I looked at a couple of shops and you cant see sold items like you can at Etsy. I just love everything you make and I feel like I am going to miss something! LOL :(
Posted by: Heather | November 26, 2007 at 08:49 PM
Hi Heather! You're sweet - and that's a really good concern! You will be able to see everything I will have for sale tomorrow - even if it happens to be already 'sold' by the time you get there. It will just say 'sold out'. I know - Etsy is wonderful! - the Big Cartel is just going to work better for how I do things.

Oh my goodness, that top photo alone would be worth spending a cold night out on a headland! That is absolutely beautiful...
