I've Started Something...
...I just don't know what it is yet. It started with these from Calvin:
And turned into these:
I embroidered the animals onto some old linen, and added some fabric scraps (Recognize one, Amy?). Trying to match his writing was trickier than I thought, but so fun nonetheless. I had intended to turn these squares into pillows, but just as they were about to become that I had the idea that with a few more animals, it would make a really fun blanket/throw thingy (the squares are large--21" square each, so I don't think I'd need a lot more). But then I'd have to figure out how best to quilt it, bind it, and all those other decisions to be made with a quilt. Hmnn...any thoughts? Or other ideas of what to do with them? I'm feeling quite indecisive about where to go with these.

I don't have any ideas, but that cow and three-legged giraffe are crazy-cute!

they are really lovely and would be lovely framed or made into mini quilts for hanging too.

Oops, sorry for the multiple post. Definitely a quilt. Definitely. So much more useable (sp?). And I'm sure Calvin will enjoy contributing.

Those are great! I think a quilt/throw would be wonderful. Or mini-quilts to hang on the walls. I can't wait for my kids to draw something I can turn into a quilt!

Although I love the idea of quilts and pillows, I would frame them. Or make a wall hanging that can be touched. (Not framed.) They would be gorgeous on the wall. You have fantastic scraps. Thank you for sharing all of these projects, Amanda. They are a great source of joy for me. Great writing by Calvin, by the way.

What a wonderful idea! I think anything you do with them would be fabulous.

I think a mini throw would also be really great. The way you've pieced the blocks reminds me a little of crazy quilting. You could do some more embroidery on the seams and then do a simple tie bind for stability. They look great!

Lovely!!
What about making a scrapbook cover, Ya know softly padded over an photo/scrapbook 3 ring binder? THey are wonderful though! and they would make nice pillow's too. Or put a dowl through the top and use them for a wall hanging.. (how'd you transfer the pictures to fabric?)

such wonderful ideas!! I so love to see projects made from young art. my daughter would love to help make some of these things. I can't wait to see what you come up with for these...I think they would be a lovely wall hanging...

You can always tie it instead of quilting. Or just quilt "in the ditch" ad then tie in other places to be sure it's secure...

i say go for a whole quilt. maybe put another round of random fabric strips around each one so there's more separation between animals (then you don't need as many animals) or do plain squares (or triangle squares/pinwheels/etc.) between the animals. quilt all over in the fabric strips area, but in the animal area just quilt one time outlining around the animal and the word. maybe 1/4-1/2 inch outside it in a circle. or do that and then echo circle it once or twice. that's my idea for ya. ;)

My first thought was a wall hanging. Maybe set with a measure down the side as one of those height chart things?
