It's a Start
Yay! My first quilt top completed! It's crib size for our soon to be arriving wee one. I'm pretty psyched with the process so far--I love these fun fabrics--the plaid and the farmers market print are both Munki Munki; blue egyptian cotton; and the embroidered fruits and veggies I did. Unfortunately, I need to put this away for a while as I have a few crafting deadlines fast approaching. When I return to it, I need to figure out how the heck to quilt it (can't decide between tying, hand quilting or trying to squeeze it through my lame machine), and which fabric to back it with (I'm thinking the flannel, 'cause it will be so soft!!), and then the whole batting thing. Hmn...this is why quilting is overwhelming to me! (But oh, so fun!)

Don't you just adore that Munki Munki farmers market print? I love it!! I see a matching diaper bag and changing pad on my future sewing list.

Great job Amanda... Now I may be motivated enough to piece all my cut Munki squares together!!!

I love it!! are the munki munki fabrics heavy? I had read on another blog that someone found them heavier than they thought so I pictured home dec. type weight...

What a yummy little quilt! I love the color and pattern combination, and the way you set the squares, and put the middle embroidered one on point. You're a natural!

ahh-so good!and your squares match up so well! I love the veggies. I had a blanket with embroidery on it, I carried that little ratty thing around with me until I was 12-I loved looking a the needework so much. your babe will love it.
if you want to be able to wash it a bunch, or expect it to get a ton of wear, maybe machine quilting? But I am pretty hard on my tyed-off quilts and they have done fine.

I just found your blog, and I love all the things you do! And your quilt top is so sweet, I can't believe it's your first one! I've just started piecing, and I love that part, but I am intimidated when it comes to actually turning it into a quilt... Good luck!!

Gorgeous! I love the colors! Brynne's room is done in orange and blue, and it's such a happy combination - perfect to pick up the farmer's market colors!

Your quilt is adorable! I remember well my first quilt, which is now living with my son, who took it off to college in 1989. It was tied, and still is hanging together pretty well. You did a wonderful job technically, but I really love your choice of fabrics and colors. The embroidery is wonderful, too. A cool-but-cute combination. Outstanding.

This is adorable! Children should all have their very own mama (or gradmama) made quilts. My kids travel with their quilts and drag them from room to room in the winter. Wonderful to have.

I am in love with Munki Munki fabrics. I can't wait until the 2005 line is available. I'm still aggitated that I missed out on the Gnome print.

What cute fabric and veggies! I'd vote for flannel backing, because it's so snuggly. My new baby has two flannel crib quilts and the older kids are always trying to swipe them.
