Finished: Amy Butler Handbag

Dscf0005_1 Dscf0003_1

Pattern: Amy Butler's InTown Bag
Fabric: from Amy Butler's Ginger Bliss Collection (from www.fabric.com)
Pattern Notes: I find her pattern language to be a bit much (though I do think they're helpful for beginning sewers). This pattern did not call for any interfacing, which I found odd considering she called for only midweight cotton for both the lining and exterior. So I lined ALL the pieces--lining and exterior--with a heavyweight iron on interfacing.  I really like the button loop closure, but I'm not sure it will withstand much use--we'll see.  Overall, I'm pleased with this pattern. I really love the shape, and the handles, and the pattern is quite easy to use.

This bag is making it's way to Katie, who's been waiting patiently for a bag for ages now. Happy Early Birthday, Sis!

She's lovely. I know what you mean about Amy's patterns. They can also be a little inconsistent.

lovely bag! i just made her new tote from the same fabric you used as liner. it used canvas as a liner and worked great. last year i made her dorothy bag which doesn't call for liner. i wish i had used interfacing as you did. it is kinda floppy!

I have found the same thing-my mom made up the "nap pillow" pattern with the spider and all and it's about the cutest thing I've ever seen (will post photo on blog soon) but overall you can tell amy butler isn't a sewer-the directions are a bit jiggy.
